‘Follow the Sailor’ by Andrea Elera is a poetic exploration of the traumatic conflict inscribed in the public space of the city Derry-Londonderry, in Northern Ireland, in relation to state-imposed violence in Lima, Peru, during her childhood in the 1990s. With the aid of feminist phenomenology and the river running through Derry-Londonderry as a deviating way of ‘reading’ the city, Elera enabled a method to loosen up the traumas and conflicts carved in space and memory. As she writes: ‘in the context of silence, a new language emerged to me’.
